2000 JUDGES

The Northwest Flower & Garden Show always attracts some of the world's best known horticulturists as judges, and the 2000 show is no exception. The upcoming event will feature judges H. Marc Cathey, Lois Hole and Robin Williams - all experts in their fields and well respected throughout the horticultural industry. The judges are responsible for bestowing the Flower Show's best gardens with awards for their designs and plantings. Some of the awards that will be handed out include the best use of color, water, woody plants, perennials, design and others.

H. MARC CATHEY
Dr. H. Marc Cathey is a widely recognized horticultural scientist and President Emeritus of the American Horticultural Society in Alexandria, Virginia. He is known for his research on the interrelations of light, temperature and chemicals in the growth of plants (which has benefited both commercial growers and consumers), as well as coordinating the introduction of the AHS Plant Heat-Zone Map (which has permitted the coding of all plants for their best locations). He has served at Ohio State University as the First Visiting Professor of Horticulture, as the Director of the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., and as the National Chair for Florist and Nursery Crops Review (U.S. Department of Agriculture). Cathey also has published several books and a CD-ROM, has hosted a popular national radio gardening show, and has received numerous prestigious awards. Cathey will present two seminars at the 2000 Flower Show - The Smart Garden and Containing Eden.
ROBIN WILLIAMS
Hailing from Berkshire, England, Robin Williams is famous for his exquisite garden designs and his numerous gardening books. Williams has many commendations to his name, including: a founding member and past chairman of the Society of Garden Designers; first U.K. certified Member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers; a regular award winner at the Chelsea Flower Show; co-founder and director of the College of Garden Design; and consultant for three BBC gardening programs. Williams will present Gardens for Beauty & Function and The Magic of Water in the Garden in the Northwest Flower & Garden Show free seminar series.

BEST WISHES TO ROSEMARY VEREY

Rosemary Verey, perhaps England's most famous gardening author and lecturer, was scheduled for a return engagement to the 2000 Northwest Flower & Garden Show. In November, while home at Barnsley House, Rosemary fell and broke a hip. She has since had surgery and is recuperating nicely. However her surgeon has forbidden any travel while her hip heals, so Rosemary has had to regrettably cancel her appearance. Having visited the Northwest Flower & Garden Show often, Rosemary has developed quite a following in the Northwest. Rosemary deeply regrets this forced cancellation. Her lectures will be ably substituted by Robin Williams, another famous British author and lecturer.
