Hearth and Soul Designer: Washington Members, APLD Creator: Association of Professional Landscape Designers 710 Ogden Ave., Suite 600 Naperville, IL 60563 (630) 579-3268 Waking Into Zen Transform your state of being upon entering the garden. Contemplation begins as you step upon the granite stones and ponder the movement of water through bamboo. Journey deeper into the garden. Your thoughts quiet and time slows as you approach the teahouse, a place of tranquility and harmony. Stone, bamboo, water and wood combine, separate and culminate into structures and shapes of beauty and function. Designer: Jim Grandy Creator: The Bamboo Man 11801 NE 212th Ave. Brush Prairie, WA 98606 (360) 604-1945 The 19th Hole After a tough day on the golf course, there's nothing like a smooth ride home in your brand new Cadillac. When you arrive, you work on your short game with your custom-made putting green or you can just relax on the deck and listen to the nearby fountain. Perhaps a nap would even be appropriate! Designer: Tom Berg Creator: Berg's Landscaping P.O. Box 1628 Woodinville, WA 98072 (425) 483-0717 info@bergslandscaping.com Where the Wild Things Are Remember… Imagine… Dream… A magical garden grows and grows in your bedroom… Your mind fills with the possibilities; the hopes and dreams of your childhood… Gently close your eyes and imagine, Being swept away to where the wild things grow…You are there… Designer: Briggs Nursery Design Team Creator: Briggs Nursery, Inc. 4407 Henderson Blvd. Olympia, WA 98501 (360) 352-5405 The Millennium Railway A diminutive turn-of-the-century timber locomotive winds its way through a granite mountain tunnel in contrast to a modern passenger train that snakes around a waterfall. Originally used to open up the Northwest, railways have played an important role in forming our regional character. Our new rail systems will redefine our daily commute, but the real joy of riding the rails is the same as it ever was: leaning back, gazing at the beauty of the passing greenery, and settling into a daydream. Designer: Alan Burke¸ ASLA Creator: Classic Nursery & Landscape Company 12526 Avondale Rd. NE Redmond, WA 98053 (425) 885-5678 Balancing the Elements - Feng Shui in the Garden Nature's original elements are selected for indigenous beauty, taking us back to our Northwest beginnings. All things are balanced here. You can hear the wind blowing the life-breath of the ages, swirling around the skeleton of this ancient giant cedar, caressing the waters, whispering to the trees. Human presence is a gentle intrusion noticed by the artistically pruned maples, the stone sculpture and the bonsai collection at the edge of the garden. This is a place to visit to restore our energies and creativity. Designer: Dan Robinson Creator: Elandan Gardens, Ltd. 3050 W. State Highway 16 Bremerton, WA 98312 (360) 373-8260 Feathering the Nest Beyond the rustic fence, surrounded by beautiful flowers, lies the old garden house. It is a place for family and friends to marvel at the abundance of nature, the changing of the seasons, and to observe the cycles of life. Birdbaths and feeders draw songbirds into the garden. Weathered birdhouses decorate the fence and invite the birds to come and make themselves at home. Trees and shrubs, vines and flowers combine to create a haven for gardeners and their fine-feathered friends. Designer: Vi Kono Creator: The Flower Growers of Puget Sound 3129 - 19th Ave. East Sumner, WA 98390 (253) 862-5213 A Place for Children to Learn and Explore The garden is a place for a child to learn and play. This garden is dedicated to Landscape Architect Friedrich Frobel, who believed children's minds and spirits grew naturally, much like plants in a garden. Our garden has all the elements needed to nourish a child's body and soul - a place to hide and play, a vegetable garden to watch, and plants to harvest. Designer: Mike Bronkala Creator: Gardenstone Design 6206 45th Avenue NE Seattle, WA 98115 (425) 889-8297 Just Butting In A young Irish maiden stands in a landscape ablaze in a kaleidoscope of colors - red, orange, yellow, gold and silver. Renton, WA 98055 (425) 204-0237 Gone Fishin' High in the mountains…no worries…no phones…no problems, sitting in a boat with your best friend. The air is crisp, the water clear. Looking around, you notice a topiary grizzly bear with her cub - both fishing. The hare and fox have already caught their limit, and the deer is wondering who's next. If you're not careful, the porcupine will unleash his pointy quills, or the frog might squirt you. Just another day "gone fishin'." We taste the petals of tulips and violets. We tickle our chins with feathery astilbe. We ponder the mystery of "black" leaves. Dolly naps on the stone bench. Before leaving, my mother and I dine on chocolate cake decorated with rose hips and petals. A perfect Spring day! Creator: Pam Richards, Garden Designer 1422 NW 63rd #302 Seattle, WA 98107 (206) 781-2314 The Great Plan Robbery Water and the Northwest are synonymous. When we're not dodging it from above, we try every way possible to include it in our garden. But hold on, skullduggery's about - our plans may be in vain. Someone's planning to derail our project. Who is it? The competition? Can we stop them in time to save our great waterfall? Creators: Rodgers Landscaping 2075 Seabeck Hwy. NW Bremerton, WA 98312 (360) 478-0285 Design Northwest P.O. Box 268 Hansville, WA 98340 (360) 638-0225 Salmon-Friendly Gardening Are there creative, effective ways for gardeners to make a difference for salmon? Can any one person or landowner make a difference? Of course! We can choose to create gardens that honor nature and beauty together, whether a garden is near the shore, along a stream, river or lake - or far away from water. This garden will provide a sense of place, an outdoor room to entertain and play, a plot to grow healthy, organic vegetables and an opportunity to connect with nature. Creator: Seattle Public Utilities 710 2nd Ave., Room 505 Seattle, WA 98104 (206) 684-7560 Paradise Restored From the time man was in the Garden of Eden, people have had the desire to garden. All over the world people have taken wild plants and cultivated them, tamed them, hybridized them. They have placed them in their gardens, to see, to smell, to eat, to use as medicine¸ for daily subsistence - and others for pure beauty. Creator: Skagit Landscaping 1859 State Highway 9 Mount Vernon, WA 98273 (360) 422-8200 A Living Painting The Northwest is called a painter's paradise - and a gardener's too. The garden's design utilizes the drama and beauty of nature. Each season has its own unique contribution to the landscape, and the picture is always changing…a living painting to enjoy over the years. Creator: Star Nursery & Landscaping 13916 - 42nd Ave. South Seattle, WA 98168 (206) 241-2115 One Hundred Years of Solitude This is a garden of reflection - a modern Victorian folly. Each architectural piece represents the passage of time, a question or an answer. The plants create a dreamlike quality on the landscape. This garden is a place to reflect on our fears, hope and dreams for the new millennium…a place of poetry. Creator: Stone Crow 1010 Harris, Suite 101 Bellingham, WA 98225 (360) 733-5557 The Woodland The distant music of falling water draws you along the tapestry of leaves that is more art than path. Surrounding you is the lush soft greenery of a woodland that is both natural yet knowingly touched by the hand of man. Soft hues of early spring color brighten the woodland floor, and the fragrance of the winter shrubs reminds you spring must be somewhere near. Above, the watchful eyes of the guardian trees follow you along the path. Creator: Washington Park Arboretum 2300 Arboretum Dr. E. Seattle, WA 98112 (206) 325-4510 |
